HAND saws, washboards and jugs could be considered weapons but not to The Perch Creek Family Jugband.

The iconic group, and legitimate jug band from Mijinbil, will perform in Uki for the annual Hillbilly Christmas Hoedown on Sunday.

Camilla, 25, Lear, 21, Eileen, 19, Christi, 17 make up the Hodgkins side of the family band that also includes Camilla's boyfriend Jimmy Chandler.

We haven't seen much of the group in the Northern Rivers for the past year because they have been busy gallivanting in Melbourne.

"We haven't been up in awhile," Camilla said.

"We've just spent two months in Europe doing 50 shows in 60 days."

They're glad to be back on home soil to perform with some of the great acts from the area.

"We're so excited and we're looking forward to it most out of all the gigs," she said.

"People will dress up and there will hopefully be hay bails."

They will play with Lil' Fi & the Candy Apples and the Barkers Vale Brothers at The Uki Hall.

Big things are happening for the bluegrass band next year including the release of a forth album that band members hope will be full of original tracks.

The actual Hodgkins' family has eight children, all who have contributed to the band in some way or another in their 11 years of existence.

The youngest contributor Lenny Hodgkins, 9, is apparently the best spoon player in all of the land.

If you're keen to check them out head to The Uki Hall on Sunday December 23.

Doors open 7pm. and tickets are $15 at or at the door. Kids are free!

Hot drinks and yummy goodies available on the night.

It's sure to be one hootin' celebration!
