Woman faces charges after five cars smashed

A WOMANaccused of smashing and attempting to break in to five cars before kicking a police car will remain behind bars until mid-December.

The 41-year-old was arrested near a Kingscliff Blue Care facility on Tuesday. Police allege she smashed and damaged five cars in a secure car park.

Tweed Police Inspector Gary Cowan said the woman not only damaged cars but smashed a porcelain sink at the property before kicking over garbage bins, chairs and smashing a mailbox.

He said when officers approached her she began swearing and abusing police before running up to the police car and kicking in a spotlight causing it to break.

"She was arrested and transported to Tweed Police Station," Insp Cowan said.

"It is terrible behaviour."

The woman was charged with 10 counts of malicious damage of property and one count of break, enter and steal.

Yesterday she appeared at the Tweed Court where bail was refused and she was remanded in custody until December 17.

Insp Cowan said police did not know why the woman was so aggressive.

The incident comes just one day before Tweed/Byron Local Area Command issued a warning for Kingscliff residents to keep their property locked up.

"We are seeing a spike in break and enter offences, particularly in the Kingscliff Sector over the past couple of days," the warning said.

"There has been reports of homes being entered through open garage doors during day light hours."
