THOUSANDS of punters streamed into the new home of the Gold Coast Big Day Out as the annual festival got underway at the weekend.

There was a lengthy queue outside Metricon Stadium and the Carrara Parklands on Sunday morning but it moved steadily as keen music-lovers got in early to soak up the sun and party vibes.

More than 35,000 tickets had been sold in the lead-up to the event which was headlined by Tame Impala, Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam.

Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion) was also expected to play his reggae set at the Red Stage.
