WHIMSICAL, beautiful and strangely scary would probably best describe the Tweed River Art Gallery's Rubber Gloves, Sharp Teeth and Other Pointy Bits exhibit.

Held until March 3, the exhibit features a variety of soft sculptured creepy creatures crafted from rubber, wool and PVC derived from the imaginative mind of artist Erica Gray, who describes the exhibit as 'all the fun things your mummy warned you about.'

Gallery director Susi Muddiman said the exhibit was attracting a sizeable crowd of visitors.

"We haven't had anything like it before," she said.

"You really can't miss it, it's so challenging and 'in your face'."

Miss Muddiman said the concepts were strange and unusual, but thoroughly interesting.

"She doesn't shy away from anything unusual in her project matter. It's putting in 3D and 2D her moods, thoughts and imagination.

"It's really not what you expect. She's achieved what you thought was unachievable."

Miss Muddiman thought the exhibit would definitely make some visitors blush.

"It's a little bit kinky, I think she's brave. But there is a little bit of a voyeur in everybody, whether we like it or not."

The gallery describes the exhibition as a celebration of a fantastical world of colour, claws, horns and soft udders, which explores the darker depths of the human mind.

Miss Muddiman encouraged people to come along and see the exhibit for themselves.

"It's a great time to visit the gallery, all the shows at the moment are fabulous."

The art gallery is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm and entry is free.
