GREAT excitement was in the air when Gold Coast Titans development squad member Sam Mescalle came to visit Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School.

He stopped by as part of the school's Book Week celebrations last week.

Lindisfarne School was chosen to be part of the Titans 'Heroes Can Read Too' program.

Mescalle read to all classes from Pre-school to Year 4.

The students then had the opportunity to ask questions about the book, rugby league or playing for the Under 20's Titans team.

The theme for this year's Book Week was 'Champions Read', and each year level was read to by a different champion.

Former PGA golfer Nicole Lowien, Olympic gold medallist Carsten Loemker, past Paralympian Bill Chaffey, Olympic medallist Sharon Buchanan and Australian Surf journalist Tim Baker took some time out of their day to read to the students.

Primary Coordinator Jodie Duggan said the children were excited and inspired by the 'Champion' visitors.

"It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm shared by all of the children as a 'real' champion took the time to read a story to them," she said.

"All of the students were invited to dress up as a 'Champion' for the day to celebrate."

The champions certainly helped to instil a love and appreciation of books and reading.
