Court: Man faces 29 sex charges

A MAN charged with sexually assaulting a Tweed Heads teenager in the late 1990s has appeared in Lismore Local Court.

The 70-year-old man appeared in prison greens on Tuesday and is facing 29 charges relating to a string of sexual assaults that allegedly occurred between August 1999 and February 2002.

He sat silently in the dock after Tweed Heads detectives flew to Victoria, arrested him last Monday and successfully applied for his extradition.

His charges include two counts of homosexual intercourse with a male aged between 10 and 18, two counts of detain for advantage, eight counts of aggravated indecent assault of a victim under 16 years, four counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under 16 years, four counts of aggravated act of indecency of a victim under 16, incite person under 16 years to commit an act of indecency, three counts of commit act of indecency with a person under 16 years, four counts of assault with act of indecency and sexual assault without consent.

The accused did not apply for bail which was formerly refused by Magistrate Denes.

She adjourned his matters until July 3 at Lismore Local Court.
