MANCHESTER United's advantage over second-placed defending champions Manchester City at the top of the EPL ladder has been reduced to five points thanks to Tottenham striker Clint Dempsey.

Dempsey scored an equaliser in the third and final minute of injury time to earn his team a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

Robin van Persie had given United, who started the weekend seven points in front of City, the lead in the 25th minute, his 18th league goal of the season.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson hit out at a linesman for not giving a penalty after Wayne Rooney went to ground in the box.

"It was a clear penalty-kick on Wayne Rooney, but in no way was the linesman going to give that," Ferguson said.

Chelsea secured only its second home league win under interim manager Rafael Benitez after beating Arsenal 2-1.

Juan Mata gave Chelsea a sixth minute lead before Frank Lampard made it 2-0 from the penalty spot 10 minutes later before Theo Walcott pulled one back for the visitors in the 58th minute.
