ENGLAND international Stewart Downing has finally scored an EPL goal in a Liverpool shirt - it has taken a while.
The winger broke his drought in the 4-0 win against Fulham at Anfield after 50 hours of trying over 17 months in 45 league matches at the club since joining from Aston Villa.
Ironically his last league goal had come while he was still playing for Aston Villa, back in May 2011, against Liverpool.
Martin Skrtel, Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez scored the other goals in what was Liverpool's biggest win of the season to-date.
Liverpool's Merseyside rivals, Everton, came from behind to win 2-1 at West Ham and go fourth on the ladder.
Both teams finished the game with 10 players on the field after West Ham's goal-scorer Carlton Cole and Everton midfielder Darron Gibson were both sent off in the second half.
Second-placed Manchester City beat bottom-of-the-ladder Reading 1-0 thanks to Gareth Barry's injury-time winner to close the gap to three points on Manchester United, who played Swansea.
Elsewhere, Arsenal moved to third after a 1-0 win at Wigan, Tottenham slipped down to fifth place after a 0-0 draw at home to Stoke, and Newcastle beat QPR 1-0 at St James' Park.
It was only Newcastle's second win in the past eight games, and Harry Redknapp's first defeat as QPR manager.
West Brom beat Norwich 2-1, while Sunderland managed a 1-0 win at Southampton.
