DRESSAGE championships held at the Murwillumbah Showground at the weekend saw some spectacular performances and picture perfect weather.

The Tweed Valley Equestrian Group held its Official Dressage Championships in a "fantastic weekend of superb combinations of horses and riders competing at seven different levels of dressage," according to a spokeswoman.

The grounds were in top condition and for the first time all four arenas were sand dressed.

The club was complimented from by riders with potted purple (the club's colour) chrysanthemums giving the arenas a special finishing touch.

The Tweed Equestrian Saddlery provided a VIP area on the veranda of the showground building for guests.

"They could sit in comfort on white decorated chairs at white clothed tables with a cuppa or nice glass of wine," said the spokeswoman.

"The atmosphere was in keeping with that of the Olympics and was so special that already next years Official Dressage Championships are in the planning.

"This was quite an education for those wanting to view some high quality dressage and they didn't let the spectators down with onlookers responding with cheers and applause."

As well as local riders a number of well known dressage riders competed.

The winners received prize money and show rugs sponsored by Tweed Equestrian Murwillumbah Saddlery.
