Essential Energy to boost power services in Tyalgum

ESSENTIAL Energy has provided a boost to power services in Tyalgum.

Essential Energy sent 100 employees to work to replace 6km of powerlines, poles and other electrical equipment along Tyalgum, Kellys and Sharps roads in Tyalgum.

Essential Energy's North Coast Regional General Manager Brian Mclean said that the new network would improve power delivery and allow further growth as a result of the upgrades.

"Essential Energy is committed to ensuring a reliable electricity supply for all our customers and this project is just one example of how we're working to achieve this," he said.

"Crews replaced the ageing powerlines with thicker and stronger aluminium cable, proven to be more reliable than traditional copper wire and able to carry a greater capacity of power.

The work has helped to strengthen the main powerline to Tyalgum and outlying areas, making it less vulnerable to unplanned supply interruptions."

Essential Energy North Coast Community Relations Manager Rachel Hussell said that work on the lines included removing vegetation from existing lines as well as replacing older copper and steel lines with aluminium.

"The new lines are a lot thicker and stronger," she said.

"They're also more resistant to wind and can carry more power."

She also mentioned there would be more upgrades and maintenance around the area.

"It's part of our upgrade program around the North Coast," she said.

"Population growth is the main issue we have in the area.

"The new powerlines will be able to cope with accepted growth."

Mrs Hussell said Murwillumbah was due for work and maintenance next.
