Flag stolen from police station in un-Australian act

AN officer at Kingscliff Police Station labelled the theft of an Australian flag from the station as low.

Senior Constable Mick Kelly from Kingscliff Police Station said the flag had been stolen over the weekend.

"It was last seen on Friday afternoon," he said.

Snr Const Kelly said he could not understand why the flag had been stolen.

"I think it's a low act," he said.

"It's not just a flag, it's our Australian flag."

He said the thieves had stolen more than just fabric.

"It's what the flag means to Australians."

The offence was committed while the station was unmanned and officers were out on patrol.

Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Acting Inspector Jason Dowds said the flagpole had been damaged during the theft.

"The flag was stolen from Kingscliff Police Station, and there was damage to the flagpole," he said.

"It could have been done when the station was unmanned."

Police are investigating the theft and are calling for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious.
