A BIOSECURITY investigation into the Cugden Nature Reserve has confirmed there are more wild dogs than the three originally targeted for trapping.

Dean Chamberlain of North Coast Land Services said an operation would begin tomorrow on the western side of Tweed Coast Road around the Scout Camp to catch more wild dogs.

Sightings of wild dogs, believed to be more timid than the three who attacked a 72-year-old grandmother, have spurred the operation, as well as recently reviewed footage which showed in 2014 a litter of four pups inhabited the area.

"The last dog that was trapped was a young female who had had a litter, so we could be looking for one or two wild dogs still in the area," he said.

Christine Jackson, whose kelpie was mauled to death by a wild dog, has always maintained that there was more than the three wild dogs targeted by biosecurty.

Residents should report wild dog sightings in this area to Council on (02) 6670 2400.   Report wild dog issues on private property to North Coast Local Land Services on 02 6623 3900.
