A FREAK accident occurred this morning when a Jeep rolled onto its side while coming down a driveway in Bimbadeen Ave, Banora Point.

The man and woman in the car were trapped for about 30 minutes before the windscreen was removed, and they were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver has lost control of the car coming down a steep and slippery slope with a trailer attached and skid marks were evident on the grass next to the driveway.

Next door neighbour Julie Cusbert was glad the couple walked away from the accident.

"I heard a big, big noise and ran outside," she said.

"The Jeep was on its side and they were screaming. I've been living here ten years and never seen something like that happen. I'm just glad they're ok."

Mrs Cusbert said that the driveway had accumulated a lot of moss from the recent wet weather, which may have contributed to the car losing control.

"It was just lucky that their five-year-old wasn't in the back seat and was at school. They would've really freaked out if that happened," she said."

Volunteer Rescue Association president Stuart Armbruster said it was very lucky that no one was injured.

"We were called out to a job, two persons in a car that had rolled. They walked away under their own power after we removed the windscreen," he said.

Mr Armbruster said that the complete picture of what happened was not yet clear.

The car was harnessed to Mrs Cusbert's house to prevent it rolling further down the driveway before tow trucks could remove it. The car started and could be driven away.

Police, fire and ambulances were present on the scene, as well as a number of witnesses.
