Funding to help battlers

STATE Member for Lismore, Thomas George, announced this morning $236,427 in funding to the Lismore & District Financial Counselling Service from the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.

Mr George said he was glad the funding was going to such a good cause - a service that provided a much-needed and helpful service to the community and which was currently at capacity.

"It is sad that people are needing these services. You'd like to think that no one would need these services, but they do," he said.

The funding will cover three years, which would help the Lismore & District Financial Counselling Service, in conjunction with Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads financial counselling service which runs out of both the Murwillumbah Community Centre and The Family Centre at Tweed Heads South, to maintain their levels of service or bring all their services up to a full time basis.

Lismore & District Financial Counselling Service manager Steve Snelgrove said the services they provide would not be possible without the funding they receive from the Federal and State governments.
