THE bell tolled for the Lennox Head Bowls and Sports Club last Sunday, and the sad task of ringing the bell inside the bowlo for the final time was given to life members Mona Arandale and Les Chaseling.

But bowlers are hopeful the club will one day re-open-there will be a meeting of Lennox bowlo members and representatives of the Sydney-based Ramsgate Group board today, November 16 to discuss the future of the club.

The Lennox club amalgamated with the Ramsgate Memorial RSL Club in 2006. The Ramsgate board announced last week it would close the doors of the Lennox club on Sunday, citing continuing financial losses - including a loss of $490,000 in the last financial year.

A meeting at the Lennox bowlo last Thursday attracted about 500 people who voted to ask Ramsgate for a six-month moratorium on the closure.

Speaking at that meeting, men's bowling club treasurer and former secretary-manager of the Lennox bowlo, George Bowden, said the six-month period would allow the club to trade over the peak Christmas period, and also allow members to come up with a plan for the future.

There is a Save the Lennox Head Bowlo Facebook page.
