AN extra 80 police will be patrolling Byron Bay and six at Brunswick Heads during this evening's New Year's Eve celebrations.
In Byron Bay where a crowd of between 10,000 and 15, 000 is expected, police will set up three alcohol confiscation points on Jonson St, Bay St and at the railway line beside the Railway Hotel to enforce the alcohol-free zone.
"We're doing everything to make sure everyone has a good time," Acting Inspector Jason Dowd from Byron Bay police said.
This year an additional 9pm fireworks has been scheduled for families followed by another at midnight.
A twilight beach market will kick off at Apex Park at 4pm with amusements rides and entertainment.
Barricades have already begun to be erected with Jonson St now closed at the Lawson St roundabout up to Main Beach for the celebrations.
Bay Street will be closed at the corner of Fletcher St.
Bay Lane will be restricted to residents and delivery vehicles between Fletcher and Jonson streets.
