Jailed for kill noose

A GRAFTON man has been sentenced to more than 23 years' jail for the murder of a Glen Innes greengrocer.

The Supreme Court heard yesterday David Ronald Comber played a part in the murder of Adrian Trevett who was "coldly and calculatingly" executed at a Red Range Butter factory in 2010.

Mr Trevett's body was found in a national park near Tenterfield in January last year. Comber and two others, Karen Dawson and a man yet to face court, were charged with murder.

In sentencing, Justice Geoff Below noted while Comber did not play a direct role in the cause of death - he tied a rope around the victim's neck - he was aware of another accused's intention to kill and remained "willing and able" to help.

Comber was sentenced to 23 years and four months for the offence. He was also convicted of racking up more than $60,000 on Mr Trevett's credit card and sentenced to six months.

Dawson, who appeared in the Newcastle Supreme Court via video link, was also sentenced to 23 years' jail with a non-parole period of 17 years and three months. The third person will front court again on March 1 next year.

Comber's then partner Kristine Weston and Casino woman Deborah Grant, who both provided false information to police during the investigation, were given 12-month good behaviour bonds. Comber will be eligible for parole in October, 2028.
