The Byron Magpies dominated Burleigh Heads in a powerful display of football last Saturday.

The first quarter saw The Magpies get off to a flyer. Matt Shaw kicked 3 quick goals as the Burleigh back men battled to stay in the contest.

Consistent forward Liam Afflick got 2 more goals and Brett Porter got a late one to see the Magpies end the first term with 6 straight while not allowing the Burleigh side into their forward half.

In the second term Byron continued to dominate proceedings. Trent Stana was having his best game for the club, his strength around the ground in marking duels was a real highlight.

Heath Griggs' creativity was a headache for the Burleigh on ballers and a welcome return to the forward line, Joe Ryan booted 3 goals in succession.

Going into the half time break Byron had kicked 5 for the term while managing to keep Burleigh goal less for the half.

After the major break some inaccurate kicking crept into Magpies game, after scoring the first major for the quarter they kicked a further 6 behinds in a row.

This gave Burleigh a little confidence and they got their first goal mid- way through the third term then 2 more after that.

This stung the Magpies defence into action and lead by Sam Mitchell with some brilliant overhead marking they remained unpassable for the rest of the game.

The Magpies got their kicking boots back on late in the term with another 4 goals.

The final quarter saw the Magpies run amuck. Kane Bullock had been busy all day but was still busting packs open.

Luke Henschke had been tireless in the Ruck and Joe Ryan was brilliant at ground level kicking 4 for the quarter.

The Magpies scooted away in a powerful display and dispensed with their opponents with a 20 goal win.

Next week looks like a tougher test against the much improved Lismore Swans on their home turf.
