Minister shadow boxes over Pacific Hwy

NSW ROADS Minister Duncan Gay has taken the cheeky step of welcoming Labor's new shadow roads spokesperson, Ryan Park, calling on him to "talk sense" into Federal "mate" Anthony Albanese over funding for the Pacific Highway.

Mr Park received the promotion on Wednesday after the resignation of Robert Furolo following ridicule from a Sydney newspaper over his recent Facebook posts from Greece during his honeymoon - the paper used the social media posts, presumed leaked by Mr Furolo's collegues, as an example of shadow ministers were not pulling their weight.

The embattled former roads spokesperson has never lived-down the crashing of a friend's $400,000 Lamborghini Murcielago in Sydney in 2010.

"Mr Furolo has clearly walked away crestfallen, after repeatedly trying and failing to drag Labor kicking and screaming to support key projects in NSW," Mr Gay said yesterday.

"He's been cyber-bullied out of his job by those who leaked his Facebook updates.

"Firstly he must talk some sense into Federal Labor and in particular Anthony Albanese to stop short-changing NSW on funding and return to the 80/20 model they shared with their mates under the previous government.

"The time for playing politics with the Pacific Highway is over and Mr Park must secure the funding required to achieve the Prime Minister's agreed 2016 deadline to complete duplication."

Mr Gay said to be fair he would give the new shadow minister until the end of the year to secure such commitments "from his colleagues and his Federal mates".
