A mural showing a panoramic view of the Tweed's Green Cauldron at Murwillumbah's World Heritage Rainforest Centre has drawn hundreds of visitors to the centre and is expected to become a major tourist attraction.

Destination Tweed CEO Bill Tatchell said from the earliest days, when Andy Reimanis and Mark Comport were sketching in the initial outlines right through to the team of artists adding those final touches, I've seen hundreds of visitors coming in to watch the panorama evolve.

"We are truly indebted to Andy and his team of artists and to Tweed Shire Council for providing the funding to make it all possible," Mr Tatchell said.

The panorama is a 360° artwork stretching over 20 metres and depicts the view from the summit of Mt Warning, from Byron Bay and along the Tweed coast, to the distinctive landforms of Springbrook and Lamington National Parks, to the cliffs of the Border Ranges and south along the Nightcap Ranges.

Tweed mayor Barry Longland said "the panorama offers a 'virtual experience' for visitors who are either unable to climb Wollumbin Mt Warning or who prefer not to out of respect for local indigenous traditions.

"This is a project that Tweed Shire Council is very proud to have been involved with and we will enjoy seeing it become a legacy for future generations," mayor Longland said.

The mural was officially opened on December 5 by the mayor and a public open day will be held on December 8 when visitors will have the opportunity to talk with the artists and to paint a tree.

Artist and project coordinator Andy Reimanis will give regular talks throughout the day.
