New officers bound for Richmond and Coffs/Clarence

SIX new police officers are headed to the NSW North Coast's critically understaffed stations.

The probationary constables were among the 304 men and women in blue who graduated from the NSW Police Academy at Goulburn on Friday.

Three have been attached to the Richmond command and three will walk the Coffs/Clarence beat from Monday.

For the next 12 months the new officers will be exposed to all sides of policing before being officially confirmed.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said the officers had all "worked hard to get here" and he was confident they would be "valuable members to their community" when they start work next week.

Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser said while the local allocation was "not yet up to full strength", the region would benefit from the addition of three officers at the busiest time of year.

Member for Coffs Harbour, Andrew Fraser, has welcomed the allocation of three new police officers for the Coffs/ Clarence Local Area Command.

"I congratulate these new recruits and commend them on their decision to take on the honourable job of serving and protecting our community," Mr Fraser said.

There are currently 16,096 police officers serving across NSW.

NEW POLICE FACTS

  • A total of 304 recruits were sworn in
  • The class comprises 226 policemen and 78 policewomen.
  • 259 probationary constables studied as undergraduate students, while one studied via distance education.
