Coack Osieck has tough task to raise Socceroos FIFA ranking

Socceroos coach Holger Osieck has a tough 2013 ahead of him if the latest FIFA world rankings are anything to go by.

The Australians have slipped to their lowest ranking since November 2008, dropping three places to 36th.

The Socceroos started the year in 23rd but despite winning all but one of their East Asian Cup qualifiers and beating South Korea away in a friendly, they have slipped further down the order.

Rising as high as 20th in March, the Aussies are now below the likes of Zambia (34) and Japan (22).

Also on the decline is four-time World Cup winner Brazil, which has dropped to 18th place.

European and World Champion Spain is on top of the pile for the fifth year in succession, with Joachim Loew's Germany cementing second place.

Argentina remains third, while Italy, which reached the final of Euro 2012, is in fourth.

The biggest mover for 2012 is Colombia, which has risen from 36th spot up to fifth since the start of the year, with England staying in sixth.
