DETECTIVES are looking for possible links between a frightening incident in Ipswich overnight, and a recent armed robbery at Collingwood Park.

A motorist contacted police about 9pm Tuesday, complaining that a man armed with what looked like a handgun, had pulled up beside her at Jacaranda St, East Ipswich, pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger twice - producing a quiet but audible clicking sound.

The caller told police that there was a second man in the vehicle, wearing a balaclava.

Police rushed to the area and located the suspect vehicle, following it for a long distance.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gary Dixon said the suspect car sped away in the area of Paradise Rd, Logan - police did not attempt to pursue it.

"At this stage we don't know if the alleged firearm was real, but the person has told police that the suspect put it out the window and pointed it at them," Snr Sgt Dixon said.

"They have told us that they heard two clicks."

Police are investigating whether the incident is linked to an armed robbery committed at a Collingwood Park fish and chips shop on February 21.

They refused to comment on the details of any possible link at this stage.
