Queensland needs two home games

WHAT a great week it was last week when the mighty Maroons won an amazing game of rugby league to beat New South Wales by one point.

In my mind the win makes Cameron Smith's men the best rugby league side in history.

Seven Origins in a row is a record that should never be beaten and they haven't finished yet.

To me there were a few positives to come out of the match.

First we gave the Blues a sniff and snuffed it out in the last minutes with an amazing field goal by Cooper Cronk.

The win was better than flogging the Blues by 60.

It ripped the heart out of Gallen's troops.

Second the referees finally had a good game and made all the right decisions.

And third, to quote a former Australian boxing champion, Greg Bird came out of the match with more marks on him than a German billionaire courtesy of some vicious Maroons defence.

But what I don't like this week is the Blues are already trying to rig next year's Origin by trying to get two home games.

Now I realise the thought of losing eight in a row would be too much to handle for coach and whinge master Ricky Stuart but to try to get two games south of the border when it's Queensland's turn, smacks of sour grapes.

The Blues were silly enough to move one of their home games to Melbourne this year.

Why? Nobody knows, but you'd think if you were looking down the barrel of seven straight losses you would want to have every advantage possible. Now that the move backfired the boo hoo Blues are crying they need two home games next year.

The problem is they had already agreed to a schedule put down by the ARL.

Queensland is due to have two home games and should fight tooth and nail to keep the matches in the Sunshine State. But it wouldn't surprise me if the ARL bends the rules to suit the Blues.

Then the only thing better than this year's amazing win would be going south and beating the Blues in the final game by a point on their home soil to really suck the life out of the Blues supporters.

Good week

Gympie Hockey has shown how strong their juniors are with state titles in under-13s and under-15s during the holidays.

Bad week

Riley McDowall injured a knee in the Gympie Devils' massive rugby league win over Nambour on Saturday.
