Schoolies will be safer with free buses

IT'S THAT time of the year when school-leavers let their hair down and most parents pull their hair out.

Schoolies events around Queensland, perhaps most predominantly on the Gold Coast, have often been the focus of media attention for obvious reasons.

Let's face it; putting thousands of teens - many of whom are ready to party in the one spot is a huge concern for parents.

Add underage drinking into the mix and most parents would probably have a meltdown.

But that's where RACQ comes in.

As part of our support of road safety initiatives, Queensland teens will once again have access to free bus services during official Schoolies celebrations in an effort to increase road safety, thanks to ongoing support by RACQ.

For the 12th consecutive year, RACQ is offering bus services for school-leavers on the Gold Coast, Yeppoon and Airlie Beach.

Not only are the buses a safer alternative to walking, they help reduce the temptation to drink and drive or hop into a car with someone who has been drinking.

While it may be true that no situation can ever be completely safe, we hope that this community service will help ease some of the concerns of parents whose children will be in attendance.

RACQ continues its support of Schoolies through its free2go youth membership program, which provides free and discounted membership, including access to roadside assistance, to Queensland 16-19 year olds.

Full details of bus routes, including maps, can be found on the free2go website free2go.com.
