Snake in a pool: Radio presenter hosts an uninvited guest

QUEENSLANDERS are being reminded to check their pools for surprise slithery guests during the current warm weather.

An afternoon swim took a startling turn for radio broadcaster Spencer Howson yesterday when he discovered a large carpet python in his pool.

The 612 ABC breakfast host and son Jack were contemplating a dip when Howson looked out of his kitchen window and saw the carpet python dangling off the pool's edge into the water.

"I just said something like 'Holy cow, you've got to come and see this!'", said Mr Howson.

With the snake seemingly relaxed, Howson grabbed a video camera and started filming. His wife Nikki used a hose to lightly spray the python, which slowly withdrew into nearby bushes.
