JUST DAYS before he was captured, fugitive Jonathon Stenberg applied for a part in a movie starring Hugo Weaving, Jack Thompson and True Blood star Ryan Kwanten.

Mystery Road is about a detective trying to solve an outback murder.

Stenberg won a role as an extra, a policeman.

During recruiting for the project, being shot around the Queensland outback town of Winton, Stenberg approached the film's second assistant director Mark Ingram on June 23, at Winton's North Gregory Hotel.

Stenberg said he was passing through town and keen to earn some cash.

Stenberg did an audition and had photos taken.

When listing his particulars Stenberg said his address was "back of truck (swag)".

Stenberg included his mobile phone number on the particulars sheet and listed his availability as "all the time".

He also listed his eight years of service in the army, one year in both Iraq and Afghanistan, his qualifications as a first aid instructor and as a weapons instructor.

Stenberg told producer David Jowsey he had tools in his ute and he could do odd carpentry jobs and security on the set.

Later that day when Mr Ingram called Stenberg to tell him he could start straight away he could not be contacted.

Two days later Stenberg emailed Mr Ingram saying he could no longer take the part as he had to go to the Northern Territory.

The day after Stenberg sent the email his ute was found disguised in bushland sparking a six-day manhunt.

Stenberg, who had also worked as a bodyguard for Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr, was captured by police on Sunday afternoon.

He is unlikely to return to the set in time, filming began yesterday.
