GOLD Coast Titans have resumed pre-season training and for one player it is a chance for him to step up his game.

Cody Nelson will be a member of the squad for the next two seasons after spending four seasons with the Tweed Heads Seagulls.

"It's been great. I did do pre-season training with the Titans last year, so I knew what to expect," Nelson said.

"It's good not having to work and play footy because we are training six days a week."

Nelson said the squad was solid and he was not sure if he would make the initial run-on side.

"Once the season starts I will be playing for the Seagulls," he said.

"Hopefully I will get a run with the Titans when the State of Origin team is away."

This season is a home coming for Nelson who played in the Titans' under-20 side before the Seagulls picked him up.

Nelson will join other Tweed faces in the Gold Coast Titans squad including Shaun Carney, who also stepped up from the Seagulls last season, and regulars Ryan James and Luke O'Dwyer.

The Titans were back at training on January 4 after two weeks off.

The team's season opener on March 9 is an away game against Cronulla Sharks.
