A TRIP to Specsavers next Thursday could save lives as well as your eyesight.

Specsavers Burleigh has joined forces with Coolangatta Surf Life Saving Club to raise funds for crucial life saving equipment.

Any trip to the optometrist on December 27 will raise much needed funds for the club, and customers will get a chance to meet Coolangatta SLSC's Surf Girl entrant Demi Meredith.

Ms Meredith has been fundraising for the club and will head to the Summer Surf Girl final judging in May next year.

Qualities such as life saving skills, knowledge and community spirit will be judged as she competes with other Queensland contenders.

Ms Meredith was stoked with the support she's received so far.

"The Jupiter's Summer Surf Girl program is one of the largest annual club based fundraising programs in Queensland and the community support that has already been shown to me here in Coolangatta SLSC has been very encouraging," Ms Meredith said.

She also described how important the fundraising programs were to surf life saving.

"The funds raised within the community will go directly into purchasing the vital surf safety and rescue equipment that is required to keep our beach safe. This benefits the local community, along with the many tourists who visit our beach each year," she said.

Ms Meredith said she will continue her role as volunteer life saver over the coming months.

The Jupiter's Surf Girl program raised over $1 million for QLD surf clubs last year alone.
