Voges to the rescue with 112 from 106 balls

RIGHT when his team needed him to fire, Adam Voges came to Australia's rescue in fine fashion against the West Indies in the fifth one-dayer at the MCG yesterday.

Voges hit an unbeaten 112 from 106 balls as his side reached 5-274 from its 50 overs, after the hosts were in a precarious position at 2-2.

The West Australian hit 10 fours and two sixes on the way to his maiden one-day international ton, and shared in an important 111-run stand for the fourth wicket with Brad Haddin (43).

Voges showed great patience early in his innings, digging in his heels and surviving some Tino Best thunderbolts.

The sharp new-ball quick removed Shane Watson on the first ball of the day, with Aaron Finch (one) following soon afterwards.

But Voges and James Faulkner (31 not out off 25) took charge in the latter stages of Australia's innings, as they combined for a scorching partnership of 81 from 52 balls.

The Aussies' last 10 overs saw them pile on 100 runs as the tourists' early momentum ground to a halt.
