1200km journey to combat child abuse ends in Toowoomba

CLAUDE "the mowerman'" Harvey will make it to Toowoomba today on the final leg of his 1200km journey to "mow down" child sexual assault.

The 71-year-old grandfather has been on a 14-day "mowerthon" fundraising mission, pushing his trusty, customised-cutter through 12 towns from North New South Wales to the Darling Downs.

After meeting with Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio at 9am, he will wander around the city, talking to people and raising money for child protection charity Bravehearts.

The journey follows a significant fundraising achievement, where the 71-year-old Gold Coast grandfather hit a 10-year fundraising total of more than $1 million for the organisation.

His plan is to raise a further $1 million to help educate, empower and protect children from sexual assault, as well as raising awareness.

Claude's efforts has resulted in him trudging through 86 pairs of his trademark sandals across more than 25,000 km of the Australian landscape - from Hobart to Hamilton, Bundaberg to Biloela and everywhere in between.

"My mower and I create a fair bit of attention and I'm grateful for all the support and well-wishes I get," he said.
