$2.3m building project opened
ST ANTHONY’S Primary School at Kingscliff has had a refurbishment thanks to government funding to the tune of $2,296,180 million.
Richmond MP Justine Elliot officially opened the Building the Education Revolution (BER) project on Friday.
The project included new classrooms and library renovation at a cost of $2,146,177 and $150,003 for refurbishment of school facilities.
The BER is a key element of the Gillard Government’s $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan to support jobs, stimulate local economies and invest in important infrastructure for the long term, Ms Elliot said.
“These projects provide valuable learning opportunities for our children and supported the employment of many local workers.
“This is what we strived to achieve and is the essence of the Economic Stimulus Plan.
“The BER has given schools like St Anthony’s Primary School the resources they need to help ensure that a quality education can continue to be provided by our hardworking teachers in our local schools.
“It has been fantastic to see the principal, teachers, parents and tradespeople working together to deliver these important projects for our children.
“With the completion of these projects, teachers and students can now make use of the 21st century facilities they so richly deserve.”
The electorate of Richmond has received more than $115 million for 205 projects in 90 local schools.
The school has also had an upgrade of its pick-up and drop-off zone, and demountables have been removed now that the new classrooms are in operation.
