24-hour line for mental health

THE Northern NSW Local Health District is transitioning to a new Mental Health Access Line that will provide 24-hour mental health connection and referral services staffed by mental health professionals.

Clinical Partnerships Mental Health Services manager Trent Taylor said the new line was a single-point, state-wide service that would connect the people of NSW with the right care.

"Services will continue to be provided at the same level as the existing Mental Health Access Line and callers will still receive the high level of care provided by the mental health professionals," Mr Taylor said.

"The existing Mental Health Access Line number will continue to operate in parallel with the new Mental Health Line for some time to ensure the public has the opportunity to become familiar with the new number."

The new Mental Health Line 1800 011 511 number will be operational from November 2011, enhancing existing services by providing the opportunity for people to call one number within NSW and link with local Mental Health Services.
