$24 million of Federal money for solar hot water systems

TWENTY four million dollars seems like an awful lot of money to spend on hot water, but today the Federal Government announced that is what it hopes to do.

The $24 million Local Government Energy Efficiency Program provides support to local councils across Australia to install clean energy solar and heat pump hot water systems to drive smarter energy use.

Deputy general manager of Clarence Valley Council Rob Donges said Clarence Valley Council would look at applying for funding to replace hot water systems in some council buildings.

However, Mr Donges said because the money has to be matched by Council any application would be subject to a cost benefit analysis.

"The Australian Labor Government recognises that local councils play an important role in improving energy efficiency as we transition to a clean energy future.

"The Local Government Energy Efficiency Program is a great example of this partnership between the Federal Government and local councils, and I encourage all local councils in the Page electorate to take advantage of this program," Ms Saffin said.
