Nine arrests, 2800 marijuana plants seized

MORE than 2800 marijuana plants were seized in police raids on 13 properties in Melbourne on Friday.

The four-month Victorian Police Operation Kanji resulted in nine arrests.

Police said they targeted one particular criminal group in the raids, but did not identify the organisation.

Other drugs seized in the raids included more than 1kg of ice, half a kilogram of heroin and a small amount of cocaine, which totalled more than $9 million of drugs.

Crime Command's assistant commissioner Stephen Fontana said those who used and bought illicit drugs needed to know they contributed to organised crime.

"The cannabis grow houses, for example, have the capacity to generate, for criminal syndicates, hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit every three months," he said.

In separate raids in Victoria, police seized drugs, cash, guns and ammunition in two raids in outer Melbourne linked to the Comancheros bikie gang.

Those raids resulted in arrests of a 29-year-old man and a 46-year-old man.
