$5000 raised as hundreds rally behind Sam Ford

SAM Ford and his family were overwhelmed with the stunning success of the second Charity Cup Touch Football competition held in Bogangar over the weekend.

It raised $5000 for Sam, a Cabarita lad who was the victim of alcohol-fuelled king hit that changed his life.

Twenty teams consisting of 240 players from all over the Tweed Coast and surrounds descended on the Tweed Coast Raiders football clubon Saturday for the event.

Cheques were presented at the Cabarita Bowls and Sports Club on the same evening after a day of fundraising involving raffles, sausage sizzles and more.

Sam's mum Margaret said the family were chuffed with how the day had played out.

"It was an absolutely awesome day of football and fundraising and the $5000 helps out a lot with Sam's rehab which is great," Mrs Ford said.

The event is a non-profit fundraiser conceived to help local families, local schools and youth centres with the aim to develop drug and alcohol fundraisers.
