87-year-old Banora Point man charged following two-car crash

AN 87-year-old Banora Point man was charged following a crash which left one woman in hospital.

Tweed-Byron LAC detective Gary Cowan said the man, driving a silver Hyundai, was travelling south on Minjungbal Dr and attempted to turn right into Rivendell, despite a red turning signal.

Insp Cowan said the Hyundai then collided with a red Kia Rio, which was travelling north along Minjunbgal Dr.

The driver of the Kia, a 60-year-old Kingscliff woman, was taken to Tweed Heads District Hospital with minor head injuries. 

The 87-year-old was charged with entering an intersection or crossing showing a red light.

A 60-year-old woman has been hospitalised following a two-car crash in Tweed Heads South. 

Emergency services were called to the scene, on the corner of Minjungbal Dr and Rivendell, about 10.25am Thursday.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said one woman, 60, suffered minor head injuries and was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital. 

While no further people have been transported to hospital at this point, but ambulance are still on scene. 

Fire and Rescue NSW and police were also on scene as of 10.45am.
