Charges against P-Plater upgraded after second death

THE charges against a P-plate driver accused of killing a woman in Sydney last month have been upgraded after a second person died in hospital following the crash.

Police allege the driver mounted a kerb in Rozelle and hit two people on December 14 before being detained by witnesses when he attempted to flee.

A 47-year-old woman died at the scene and a second pedestrian, a 49-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition. He died on Wednesday.

The driver faces two counts of dangerous driving causing death and will appear in court on February 3.

He is also charged with negligent driving causing death and fleeing the scene.
