First Australian Joint Strike Fighter pilot starts training

APN NewsdeskWHILE the multi-billion Joint Strike Fighter program is still at least three years away, the first Australian fighter pilot will start training to pilot the aircraft on Monday.

Squadron Leader Andrew Jackson will be Australia's first F-35A pilot, starting his training to fly the fifth generation aircraft at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida this week.

He said experiencing flying the new aircraft was "something every pilot dreams of".

After completing the training, Sdn Ldr Jackson will also be a future instructor pilot for other Australian and international pilots.

A second pilot, Sqn Ldr David Bell, was expected to start his own training later this year.
