Man in hospital after fight

A MAN is in hospital in a serious condition following a brawl in Tweed Heads over Easter.

Tweed detectives were appealing for help following the incident, which occurred about 8pm on Good Friday.

Police said two groups were involved in a fight near the Dolphins Hotel on Wharf St, resulting in a 38-year-old man being struck on the back of the head, a NSW police media representative said.

The man fell to the ground, where he was again struck in the back with the pole.

A 33-year-old man from Mt Helen in Queensland received minor facial injuries during the incident and a 33-year-old local woman was also punched during the fight.

The 38-year-old was taken to hospital where, almost a week after the brawl, he remained in “a serious condition”.

Police were appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any knowledge of it, to contact Tweed Heads Police on 07 5536 0999.
