Prime Minister tours towns torched by Vic bushfires
PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull has described the Victorian bushfires as a tragedy and also called it an occasion of triumph.
Yesterday the PM toured the Victorian coastal towns of Wye River and Separation Creek, where 116 homes were destroyed by bushfires on Christmas Day.
"People have lost their homes, they've lost all of their possessions," he said.
"They've watched their homes burn down in the bushfire. But it's also a time of triumph. This is a community that should be so proud of what it has achieved."
Mr Turnbull said the community had expected more homes to be lost, but planning and co-ordination between authorities ensured no lives were lost and many houses were able to be saved.
