Tweed Seagulls go down in tight fight with Jets
TEMPERS flared early on in the Tweed Seagull's round two clash against the Ipswich Jets on Saturday.
Gulls captain Matt King and the Jets Dane Phillips stood toe to toe in a flashback to 1980's football brawls, King coming of the better and Phillips on the turf.
The football match was dominated by the Jets on home soil at North Ipswich Reserve, running in three tries before the half time break to lead 24-4.
Penalties dominated the rhythm of the second half and the Seagulls made it back to 24-18 with less than five minutes on the clock in a grinding effort.
Ipswich playmaker Wes Conlon kicked the Jets clear with a field goal to put the match beyond doubt.
Tweed has its first home game of the season at Piggabeen oval this Sunday.
