Wall demolished in car crash

A CAR became airborne when it mounted a median strip before crashing through a brick wall in Banora Point yesterday.

The accident occurred about 11.20am NSW time on Leisure Drive as the elderly woman driver, the sole occupant of the car, exited the Coles Supermarket car park.

The car crossed two lanes of traffic and the median strip before it crashed through the wall of a retirement village.

A neighbour said it sounded like “a bomb going off during the war”. “All I heard was the loud bang,” she said.

Tweed Heads Fire Brigade senior firefighter Greg Mackay said it is unknown what caused the accident.

The woman was treated at the scene for shock.
