A community asset

ALMOST a year after the official opening of a major public space development in Tweed Heads, the mayor was back to inspect the latest additions.

Completion of stage one of the Jack Evans Boat Harbour was announced in July last year and the council marked the completion of the playground and amenities block this week.

Tweed mayor Barry Longland said the facilities were the final touches on a project which had made the harbour much more "family friendly".

"It's quite amazing to see how much this area has been transformed and what an asset it now is to the community," Cr Longland said.

"With the amenities block and the playground to complement the safe swimming area and the rock pools, this has already become a favourite spot for families having picnics, swimmers, or people having a stroll and is sure to be a big part of people's lives for many years to come."
