Tis the season to be jolly and pig out on festive favourites

WHILE it's still too early to call the weather for Christmas Day, many Clarence Valley families are planning ahead for a celebratory Christmas feast.

Grafton Shoppingworld Butchery co-owner Wendy Black confirmed ham was, as usual, a favourite, and, in particular, she said Bangalow Sweet Pork had proved to be popular with shoppers.

"People have been asking us about Bangalow Sweet Pork ever since Gate to Plate, so we decided to get it in and it's taken off like mad," Mrs Black said.

She said there had also been plenty of interest in other pork products over recent days, including rolled pork, legs, shoulders and loins.

Mrs Black expects the demand to continue right up until Christmas Eve and is looking forward to a couple of days' rest before returning to work on Thursday, December 27.

Meanwhile, Clarence Coast Fresh Seafood is looking forward to a busy few days leading up to the big day.

Co-owner David Anderson said pre-Christmas catches had been reasonably good for Yamba's iconic king prawns.

"All our prawns are locally sourced and supply is looking okay all round," Mr Anderson said. "Everything is looking good this year."

He said fresh local seafood was a great way to celebrate Christmas in the Clarence Valley, and recommended throwing a few Yamba king prawns on the barbie, slurping on Wooli oysters, and adding a few sand crabs to the menu.

"We've been taking a lot of orders for crustaceans, prawns, crabs and oysters," he said.

Vegetarians haven't been forgotten either, with a wide variety of tasty non-meat products on the shelves.
