Aaron Woods talks up respect for Maroons

THE Blues' perceived lack of respect towards Queensland has again been a focus heading into the 2016 Origin opener in Sydney on Wednesday night, but New South Wales front-rower Aaron Woods is not one of those trash talkers.

Hulking bench prop David Klemmer ignited debate after abusing Maroons veteran lock Corey Parker in his team's 26-18 win in game two last year, before Queensland dished out a record 52-6 thrashing in the decider.

Parker was incensed at the "lack of respect" Klemmer showed him in 2015 at the MCG, but brushed the matter aside when asked about it this week.

The incident was also raised with the young Bulldog who said he didn't believe he had been disrespectful.

"If you have people hammering you because you're a young player and they're not showing you respect, why should you show them respect if they don't show you any respect," he said.

Woods (pictured) took a different line, however, saying he had tremendous respect for the Queensland forward pack.

"They're really good players, blokes like Nate Myles, Matt Scott and Corey Parker," Woods said. "They're all playing unreal footy at the moment.

"You never under-estimate your opponent. We respect them that much."

While Woods said he respected his forward-pack opponents in the Maroons team, he said he wanted to play an aggressive brand of football at every opportunity.

"You just want to get straight into the game," he said.

"Sometimes if you don't get that first hit-up, you might not get a carry until the third or fourth one.

"I'd love Cameron (Smith) to kick off to me."
