Accused killer faces court

UPDATE: ACCUSED killer Melissa Anne Englart stood quietly in the dock of Toowoomba Magistrates Court today as Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck formally charged her with murder.

Dressed in prison brown issue jumper and black pants, the 36-year-old with long flowing red hair showed little emotion when formally charged with unlawfully killing 33-year-old Scott Richard Englart “on or about the 14th Day of March, 2011, at Carbarlah”.

As members of her family watched on from the court gallery, Englart's solicitor Phil Stainton sought a three week adjournment and asked that his client be excused from attending court on the next occasion.

There being no application for bail, Mr Schemioneck remanded Englart in custody and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on April 6.

Mr Schemioneck told Englart that as she was excused from attending the next court date she would not be brought up to Toowoomba from the Brisbane Women's Prison.

Asked if she understood that, Englart did not say anything but simply nodded her head in agreement.
