Action man Kit Harington likes to do his own stunts
EVEN with a limp from a mended broken ankle, Kit Harington has determined to do his own stunts in Pompeii.
The actor, who rocketed to worldwide fame as Jon Snow in the TV series Game of Thrones, broke his ankle last year after a big night out in London.
After watching a body double step in for him on the set of Game of Thrones while his foot was in a cast, he was determined to do all of his own stunts in Pompeii.
"When I met the director for the first time in LA in January it had been half a year since breaking my ankle and I remember walking to that meeting having a limp," he said.
"I worked very hard training wise as well as with the physio to able to do my own stunts.
"When I watch something back and I can see a stuntman doing something for me it really bothers me."
Pompeii sees Harington front and centre as a slave turned gladiator who seeks revenge on a corrupt Roman Senator (Kiefer Sutherland), who killed his family and threatens his love Cassia, played by Aussie actress Emily Browning.
Harington is in the country promoting the film and will be walking the red carpet at the Australian premiere in Sydney tomorrow night.
"I'm loving it (in Sydney)," he told APN this morning.
"It's beautiful weather. We went out on a yacht yesterday; that was fun. It's really nice. I wish I could stay longer."
It's been a busy year for Harington, who stars opposite Jeff Bridges in the upcoming film Seventh Son and also voices one of the new characters in How to Train Your Dragon 2.
The fourth season of Game of Thrones debuts worldwide in early April and Harington will be back on the Thrones set to begin filming the fifth season in July.
Pompeii opens in cinemas on March 20.
