Activities help keep kids safe and drug free
KEEPING kids off the streets and away from drugs and alcohol is no easy task.
To give them interesting activities so they don't want to hang around the streets is even harder.
But the CoolHeads Street Outreach Service run by St Joseph's Youth Service is aiming to achieve this.
"Our team of volunteers travel through the Tweed Coastal area, engaging with young people through organised activities and casual street engagements," youth project officer Shelley Wilson said
Offering water, light refreshments, as well as educational and referral information the aim of the program is to build positive relationships with young people that will increase wellbeing.
The strategy also aims to reduce the risk of them becoming involved in crime, either as a victim or perpetrator.
CoolHeads holds Activities at the Community Centre at Murwillumbah on the first Friday of the month and at the Lions Park Cabarita Headland on the third Friday of the month (weather permitting).
Activities run from 7pm.
"On April 5 and 19 our Activity will be Fire Twirling," Ms Wilson said.
"CoolHeads is looking for volunteers to join our wonderful team.
"We are always looking for extra funding to maintain and build this positive programme."
