African children's choir to visit
AFRICAN children orphaned because of HIV/AIDS, war and poverty will be represented by a choir performing in Tweed Heads this month.
The Watoto Children's Choir will present a Concert of Hope as part of an Australian tour featuring vibrant, original African music, dance routines and life-transforming stories.
Tour leader Robert Sendegeya said the tour was the product of a new generation of leadership emerging in Watoto, Uganda.
"It's a new production that has never been seen before in Australia and New Zealand," Mr Sendegeya said.
"We are looking forward to people seeing the beauty of Africa, sharing our stories and impacting audiences with God's message of love."
The production started in the US in September 2011 and from January this year has and will continue to travel through Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
The Australian tour began in Queensland during April and will visit Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide before concluding in Brisbane.
The Tweed Beautiful Africa: A New Generation performance will be held on Wednesday, June 20 at Vibe Church, 3 Beryl St, Tweed Heads, from 7pm.
Mr Sendegeya said each of the children in the choir had suffered the loss of one or both parents.
"They live in Watoto Children's Villages where they receive the care and nurture they need to grow up as productive citizens of their country.
He said 56 choirs had travelled globally since the program's inception.
"Providing the children with a bigger world view and an opportunity that most would otherwise never get.
"The choirs have been to Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan and USA, among others.
"Their audiences have included royalty, presidents, ministers and the common people alike, capturing many hearts wherever they go," Mr Sendegeya said.
